The flag made its first appearance on February 15, 1965; the date is now celebrated annually as National Flag of Canada Day. Between 1948 and 1995 RMC shared with Royal Roads Military College and College militaire royal de Saint-Jean the responsibility of educating officer cadets.


During the convocation ceremony, the Governor General received a Doctor of Laws honoris causa and addressed the 2019 graduating class. Every military person is expected to salute the Canadian Flag every time they walk by in uniform.
