In May 2008 the BD-04A well was completed with a record horizontal length of 35,770 ft. The World’s Longest Well. This latest record comes two years after theSakhalin-1 Consortium said it had drilled the world’s longest well to date at the Chayvo field offshore Sakhalin Island. MOSCOW, Russia -- Rosneft, as part of the Sakhalin-1 consortium, has finished drilling the world’s longest well—production well O-14—at Chayvo field, offshore Sakhalin Island.

Eclipse Resources, a Marcellus/Utica pure play driller headquartered in State College, PA that drills mostly in Ohio, has done it again. Rosneft, a member of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium, is responsible for the feat, with the length of the well with horizontal completion being 15,000m making it a world-record achievement. It was drilled to 12,289 m (40,318 ft), with a record horizontal reach of 10,902 m (35,768 ft) in only 36 days.

The BD-04A well turned out substantially longer than planned. And in January, oil crews drilled the world's longest and deepest extended-reach well, 7.7 miles down into the ground and 7.1 miles out under the ocean. (Image via Rosneft).

Eclipse can’t help it–they keep setting new world records for the longest lateral (horizontal) wells drilled–in the entire world!

Hunter Water, the water authority in the Hunter Valley region of NSW, has used horizontal directional drilling technology to create a 4.5km tunnel to upgrade its wastewater network.

This is a supercomplex well with DDI (Directional drilling index) of 8.0 and 14,129-m stepout. 1Q16: Drills Longest Shale Well Ever! Rosneft said on Thursday that the length of the well with horizontal completion is 15,000 meters which, according to the company, was a world record. The length of the well with horizontal completion is 15,000 m, which currently is a world record. On 28 January 2011, Exxon Neftegas Ltd., operator of the Sakhalin-I project, drilled the world's longest extended-reach well offshore on the Russian island of Sakhalin. Rosneft, as a member of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium, successfully completed drilling of the world’s longest well from the Orlan platform at the Chaivo field in the Sea of Okhotsk. An underground channel was then drilled with one of the most modern horizontal directional drilling systems, which cuts holes with a diameter between 30 and 180 cm, and is able to withstand tensile forces of up to 450 tonnes. As a first step, the construction team drilled two pilot borings from the west to the east bank of the Spree.

Taking into account the new record deep well, to date, the Sakhalin-1 Consortium has drilled 9 out of the world’s 10 longest wells.

Friday, November 24 2017. Ensign Energy Services Inc. has drilled Canada's longest land-based well to-date, with a measured depth of 7,770 metres. Sakhalin-1 consortium member Rosneft has successfully completed drilling a well from Orlan platform at Chaivo field in the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia.

It began last year when Eclipse drilled what they call their first “super lateral” Utica well in Guernsey County, OH–the Purple Hayes, at 18,500 feet long (see Eclipse Res.

The well had a total measured depth of 27,048 feet and was drilled in less than 18 days with a completed lateral extension of approximately 18,500 feet. Russian oil company Rosneft, as a member of Sakhalin-1 consortium, has completed drilling of the “world’s longest well” from the Orlan platform at Chaivo field in the Sea of Okhotsk. The world's longest well was drilled in Sakhalin 16 November 2017. It was completed in May 2008 by Maersk Oil Qatar and Qatar Petroleum, in the Al-Shaheen offshore oil field off the coast of Qatar. Rosneft as a member of Sakhalin-1 Consortium successfully completed drilling of the world’s longest well from Orlan platform at Chaivo field in the Sea of Okhotsk. Said to be the longest in the world, the length of the well with horizontal completion is 15,000 m (49,212 ft) with directional drilling index of 8.0 and a stepout of 14,129 m (46,355 ft). The worlds longest drilled oil well is BD-04-A, with a total length of 40,320 ft MDRT.
