Hubble's law, also known as the Hubble–Lemaître law, is the observation in physical cosmology that galaxies are moving away from the Earth at velocities proportional to their distance. Using data from the Hubble telescope, they calculated that the Hubble constant should be 69.8±0.81.8 km s –1 Mpc – 1, which is midway between results from the two rival camps.
