The trails at Mt. Mt Olympus is a longer drive from Castle Hill village but well worth the effort. Ski Area Stats & Map Tow-belts and nutcrackers are available, but no ski rental. Those prepared to go for a hike or ski tour are rewarded the most as there’s plenty of terrain to explore.
Olympus are not groomed, so the whole club field is off-piste. Mt Olympus is a club field in the heart of the Southern Alps, only 90 minutes drive from Christchurch. Temple Basin is situated above Arthur’s Pass and requires a 45 minute walk up to the field. There’s a great learners area but it requires an adventurous beginner to conquer the access tow or complete the hike there. The Mountain staff will meet you at the top of the road and assist you with rope-tow techniques if necessary, since you need to ride the first rope tow prior to reaching Top Hut.
